I'm the Anorexic

I’m the anorexic.
I pass you in the hall.
But mostly you stare through me.
You don't notice me at all.

I’m the anorexic.
I pass you on the street.
But you don’t ever talk to me.
My eyes you never meet.

I’m the anorexic,
The model on t.v.,
And society says to fit in
You must be thin like me.

Well let me tell you ‘bout society
From my point of view.
Even when you’re much too thin,
It won’t be enough for you.

They'll always say to change,
No matter what you are.
And when you do it’s not enough,
You’ll never go too far.

Once you change they’ll want you back
To the way you were before.
And even then society
Is always wanting more.

So to be an anorexic’s
Really quite the feat,
Since you can only change so much
By watching what you eat.

You can’t change what you are
When you look deep inside
But society only cares about
What it is you have to hide.

Author notes

I wrote this poem because I do struggle with anorexia every day and I find that no matter how much you try to change you will never be happy until you can acccept yourelf for who you are.

its amazing, and so true. i've struggled with an eating disorder for a while now, and i understand that society will never accept you, and always wants you to change, but sometimes you have to realize it is more important to love yourself than for society to care. good job :]

You can never please people. What's
what I was told when I was little. Yes
I agree that the media is poisoning
minds with the perfect image they
want us all to become. I hope you
    overcome it.

This was a truly beautiful and sad write.
I enjoyed reading it. Thank you for entering
my contest and good luck in it
