The Rubies

It is time for the rubies to seek escape once more.
They always fight, they always resist.
Futile, it’s all futile;
I will have my way in the end.

A flash of moonlight, a flash of steel,
A pallid face looks up in fear.
I drink it in, savouring the taste.
I will remember this moment.

The crescendo beats into my ear.
A pallid face looks up in fear.
The end is near, the end is near,
The end is near, for you, my dear.

The rubies, they seek escape from thee.
To free them is my sworn duty.
Tonight is the end for you, my sweet,
For now, tis the rubies I shall greet.

A flash of steel, a screaming throat;
A gurgle replaces; a beautiful note.
The river of rubies, in moonlight they dance;
Pooling before me, while I stand entranced.

It’s over.
The rubies lay motionless.
The vessel has let them free.
Now she’s useless to me.

But now, it’s time.
The rubies must be freed once more.
I laugh at the world, knowing
I cannot be stopped.

Author notes

This poem ultimately shows the inner workings of an arrogant serial killer with some rather grand delusions...

    A very unique take on the prompt and I like outside of the box thinkers.
    There is no need for critique here so I will just say thank you for entering and good luck in my contest. A very good poem indeed!
