I'm breaking myself in two
over you.
Stretching until
the stretching stops
and I've broken.
Words unspoken.
Too much silence.
Not enough truth.
Not enough
noise!
I'm not enough
poised
to deal with this,
to be what you want
me to be.
Can't you see?
To pick
to choose my love
to voice my desire
I cannot.
You say "one or the other,
black or white"
but the grayness is the beauty!
There's darkness in the light
and
light in the darkened spaces
it's just hiding
it's just scared
of you
Of you 'cause you can't see
Open both your eyes
Can't you see me?
Can't you see my ambition?
There can be no division.
My love flows without end
undivided
both-sided
Male and/or female
Female and/or male
What's the difference?
What's it matter?
You see
I'm tearing myself in two
over you.
But it's you that's narrow-minded.
It's you who won't understand.
Not me.
For I choose to live without walls
without barriers
without categories
to define my actions,
my life, my love.
I choose
not one/the other
But both/and
Both and.
Both he and she
and you and me.
And you can accept it or
you can forget it.
But I'm done trying to
make myself
something I'm not.
I'm done breaking myself in two
over you.
This is me.
So you can see
ME
or you can leave.
The choice
is yours
this time.
Author notes
Hopefully it's pretty obvious what this poem is about. It's meant to be a sort of "spoken word poetry"-esque piece. It was sort of just an experiment. It makes me sound a lot more powerful than I actually feel. Which is great, sometimes.
tell me what you think. honestly.
