Opheilia

Oh Hamlet, Hamlet,
why did you leave me
to wallow alone in this misery
that you have caused?

Hamlet, you left me,
all alone,
after you murdered my father,
yet, I still love you.

How is it that
I still want your looks,
want your affections,
when because of you
my father lies in a grave?

What is it that draws me to you,
even though they call you insane?
Most stay well away,
while I can't help but draw nearer.

These feelings are sending me
down a dark, winding path
that's very close to
the edge of an abyss of insanity.

The edge draws me near
and caresses me with
sweet promises of oblivion
without you, Hamlet.

I know that soon I will give in
to the suculent promises
that it whispers to me
when I am closest.

I just had to say once more
that I love you.
Before the abyss takes me,
I have to tell you.

Hamlet, I need you.
Why did you have to go?
Why couldn't you stay with me?
Why not stay with your Opheilia?

All these thoughts draw me closer
to the abyss
and this time I will allow it
to take me.

Goodbye, My Hamlet.

Author notes

I was bored and thinking of Hamlet when I wrote this. I like doing Characterizations on my favorites like Opheilia, so expect more of this type of poem. If you haven't seen or read Shakespeare's Hamlet, you won't understand what my poem is about. Just know if you get the chance, watch the movie version of Hamlet with Mel Gibson. That's by far the best one. If you have any questions about anything I wrote here, feel free to ask.

I dunno about this one. It needs help. Anyone who has read the play Hamlet &/or seen it performed, please tell me what you think about my views on Opeilia.

I think your views on Ophelia are little different from Shakespeare's.
