I listen to these old men
creaking like rocking chairs
in a common room
of greed and nonchalance.
They talk of progress
and substantial profits
around their expensive cigars
and fat lips that flap
in the most disgusting manner.
At one point
they might have cared
about the lives
they were affecting
but now they see
only hazy images
of tall buildings
and bright lights
so piercing.
There is nothing more tragic
than the repetitive motions
of corruption and foolishness
that can never be fixed
because human nature
is a permanent disease.
The tragedy of young eyes
becoming so old
in the haze and the lights
of the future
coming so fast...
so fast...

this is sad and yet very realistic and , yes, tragic. this is a good piece of writing.

What a beautiful poem, I'm assuming your quote was "There's nothing more tragic than history", so it'd be nice to put that in your AN. I love the symbolism of light here:
The tragedy of young eyes
becoming so old
in the haze and the lights
of the future
coming so fast...
and how it is linked to the "Hazy buildings" from earlier.
Lovely poem.
