He woke up one morning to a great thickly fog
That was spreading all over the land
There was mist on the grass and dew drops on the leaves
And the frost sent a chill through his hands
He ran to the meadow and he looked to the sky
Where the clouds were all forming so high
A raindrop fell down from the heavens above
And a teardrop had formed in his eye
He turned to the hills and he stood there in awe
There a rainbow of colors was found
All over the hills where the great fog had gone
As a tear from the heavens fell down
He bowed down his head then he lifted it up
And a very young soldier he saw
Went running on by and he thought to himself
He thought, what is he running for
The sounds in the distance had caused him to still
He turned and he saw with dismay
His whole life go running right passed on him there
And he knew why the fog came today
He started to walk through the meadows so slow
He turned to the heavens on high
He saw there the angels who would guide him on home
And a teardrop fell down from his eye

If one thinks of all the millions who have been slaughtered in various wars if poppies were placed on the fields and the forests and the mountains where they fell and poppies floated on the sea this world would be awash with poppies and blood and tears

So very true, my friend. It is a very sad thought indeed and one which we as humans should be intelligent enough to stop, but alas, it seems that there is always someone somewhere wanting to fight for whatever reason. Thanks for your comments.

Hi Condor
I think if we got busy and planted that field, all of us, soldiers would have less a tendency to run through them.
Nice job, very easy reading and good message.

So many of them in so many conflicts through the ages. God bless them all, past, present and future so we can live in freedom. Most of us don't know what "freedom" means, only those who have lived without it really know. A lovely write that is timeless and really knows no particular flag, could be your troops, ours or any who fight side by side with us.

Thank you, mate. I am forever grateful to all the soldiers throughout the years who have fought for our freedom, no matter as you said, yours, ours or those who fight beside us. They are a treasure. Thank you so much for reading and God bless them all.

Another powerful write here. You just let your emotions flow into your words. I do not like war. Most of them are over nothing in my eyes. Anyways, I enjoyed the read!!!

Thanks, mate. I don't think any of us like war and it seems so senseless, but we must support all our troops. Most wars are combats surrounded by religion and are so meaningless. The soldiers give so we can live and they pay the ultimate price for our freedom to speak our minds. Without them, we would have no words to speak. Thanks for stopping by.
