Girls

Dark eye-liner
and mascara
outlining eyes
big
small
round
almond
blue
green
brown
perfect.
but not good enough.
Hairspray
and ties
holding up or down hair
dark
light
curly
straight
wavy
blonde
brunette
black
perfect.
but not good enough.
Pretty clothes
and accessories
shaping bodies
big
small
curvy
thin
plump
athletic
tall
short
perfect.
but not good enough.
every girl
so pretty
in her very own way
but so unable to see it
so she struggles
making her perfect self
more perfect
forever striving
grasping
dying
to be
that which she is:
beautiful.
but seeing only

imperfection

in her
beauty.

    Amazing

So insightful and sadly true. You did an awesome job pointing out how harsh and shallow our society is. So much pressure on what doesn't matter that crushes so many people.  We're all marionettes, our strings held by brainless, clueless robots who are just puppets themselves. Will anyone ever see what lies beneath the masks? This poem might help a lot of girls. Many kudos to you a thank you for speaking out.
