We all thrive for goodness in our lives,
reaching out for the betterment of ourselves,
of what we believe is righteous,
and what we are willing to sacrifice
to obtain it.
To require virtue from within,
we need to assist others in their own quest
for the same,
and accept no credit in doing so.
True happiness can be deceiving,
tempting us to believe
we have achieved significant value
on the goals we have strived to meet,
yet holding us back from realizing
what actual wealth is worth
or can be...
We need to grasp the scope
of our obligation to this life,
what we are able to accomplish
before the journey ends,
and how far we are prepared to go
to make our lives and as many others
complete...
reaching out for the betterment of ourselves,
of what we believe is righteous,
and what we are willing to sacrifice
to obtain it.
To require virtue from within,
we need to assist others in their own quest
for the same,
and accept no credit in doing so.
True happiness can be deceiving,
tempting us to believe
we have achieved significant value
on the goals we have strived to meet,
yet holding us back from realizing
what actual wealth is worth
or can be...
We need to grasp the scope
of our obligation to this life,
what we are able to accomplish
before the journey ends,
and how far we are prepared to go
to make our lives and as many others
complete...

A beacon of light
This was like reading words of wisdom inscribed upon a wall. Graciousness of heart shines here. What a beacon of light you shine!

Sorry..
but it seems to me to be more musings than anything, the kind of thing people might say when in deep conversation in a coffee-bar, or frothy conversation in the pub! -
Profound-beautiful...
Outstanding and wise message through the lines of "Complete" in poetic expressions. A stimulating and inspiring poem striking the dynamo of fraternity and humanity.

John this is very thoughtful! Makes me want to start a few more goals for myself....i liked the lines,
"we need to assist others in their own quest
for the same,
and accept no credit in doing so."
I really like that about this poem because it was not all about just our lives being complete but others too. Very good!!!

this sounds a little like what my mom would say.... she has told me before that my value isn't made from anything i achieve, or how i look, but i have value simply because i was born... as does everyone else.
but i agree with the need to help others. that also has been instilled in me, although sometimes i fall so short and want to take a selfish route.
wonderful words to remind us that it isn't about us.. it's about others.

As a young woman, I once asked God what my purpose, outside of serving Him was. He lead me to a scripture, which I cannot quote at this time but will once I find it, that told me to see after the "baby wren". I have always been a lover of birds. Later in life I discovered that my great-grandfather was a medicine man, and highly regarded in the "Bird Clan" of the Choctaw Nation. At that time, I had no idea what a wren was. I researched and found that this is a small bird that cannot see at night, sleeps on the ground, and most often dwells in caverns and caves. The baby wren i s only as big as an adult humming bird, many times smaller.
My understanding was that I must see after the young ones, those who have been abused, and disenfranchised. I did that! I became a youth director and strong advocate for young people. I still follow my purpose even now that I am entering my elder years.
My tag; "MotheRapper" is a result of these efforts. Young people 30 - 35 see me on the street, in stores and yell across the way...MOTHERRAPPER! I can leave this world knowing that I have sought after my purpose and done the best I could do to fulfill it. I am sure there is more work that I must do and I ask the Great God of All to allow me to live out the remainder of my years fulfilling my purpose. I believe I am serving Him by serving these children.
Sorry to babble on but that's what the insight and wisdom from your poetry does to my spirit. Excellent! Thank you for writing this.
Always with Love & Respect ♥
Renee
