As the pain closes in
and life draws to a standstill
twenty five years of memories
rush to the surface
first steps and grazed knees
report cards and broken hearts
the late night talks about
what matters in the world
those were the times we grew to know each other

this has a serenity about it, it's like the poet is dying but accepts that this is what must happen for the world to go on. But is the poet 25 years old? I would expect a much older person to have written this.

Thank you for the comment and yes, the writer is 55 but I wrote the poem about my 25 year old son who is dying. There is a certain serenity attached when you realise that the result is inevitable but it doesn't dull the pain it just brings a degree of acceptance unfortunately.

The song "Time in a bottle" comes to mind here Sis. Words will never be enough to dull your pain...love you

Thank you sis

It's funny you mentioned that song Jules, it's a favourite of mine and lately I've been trying to put as many things as possible into that poor old bottle to the point where it's just about to burst
Love you honey

Beautiful Margaret! This touches my heart. Having such a close relationship with my mother I can understand the "getting to know each other part".. so many don't have that kind of bond.
May the memories never fade...

Thank you honey

We've always been close and I know that the memories will never fade because I won't let them...he'll always be looking after me and walking beside me no matter where he is. Even when he's in New Zealand having a drink or several with you my wonderful friend
I told him about that and he smiled
Love always
