raspberry kisses trace down my spine
tickling with promises of frost;
crinkling crisp evenings
fall from the trees
into my waiting lap.
I sit on my evening porch,
cradling decadent color
as long as I can
before the world grows white;
pale fingertips trace the last few days
of calendar fall.
soon come chill nights
as reward for lasting the summer days.
time spent watching moths
rise to the rainbow shrouded moon,
calling cold season ever closer.
it's so beautiful
it hurts
yet all too soon
this decadence will be my cage,
a frozen moat viewed
through gossamer frosted windows.
and spring shining knight
will take his sweet time in coming to rescue me.
feeling the inevitability closing in,
pressing me like summer's last flower,
I remain in the autumn dusk
and enjoy the mere chill
just a little longer.

This was lovely and lyrical and explained your ambivalence for the changing seasons with wonderful language and imagery. Thank you for your entry. Peace, Liz

Fitting title; easy to read and understand the sentiments you express so well in these lines. Enjoyed the visuals these words bring to mind as well. Raspberry kisses is a wonderful phrase.

Outstanding...such beautiful words and images, I love the annology, being a pressed flower of summer, spring to be your knight in shining armour! I love the coming of Spring to summer myself, I am ok with Fall because the flowers can live up until November, but Winter is only pretty to me when the snow touches the trees. Excellent and creative. Blessings.

Just Lovely ! You have incorporated all of the seasons so very beautifully within this piece, focusing first and foremost on the fall. Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons only because my inner furnace stays stoked all year round. I need that 5 month break...LOL...
