deer GOD (Prayer in a Bottle)

A little boy looks out at the water
Normally, his imagination would run wild with the ideas of pirates and mermaids and underwater cities and giant squids
Now, he’s on a mission
You see, the little boy is desperate
Desperate for proof
Desperate for truth
So he takes a piece of folded up notebook paper out of his pocket
Rereads it to make sure it’s perfect

“deer GOD,” it starts

He rolls the paper into a small tube and stuffs it in the clear bottle he salvaged from the trashcan and puts the cork in
He pulls his arm back
And throws it as hard as he can into the ocean

PLOP

A month later, a girl, a young girl, despite what she thinks
Still a child, but thinking she’s an adult
Is walking along the beach
She finds a bottle
A clear bottle
She stares
She sighs
And scolds irresponsible adults
If only she had it her way…
She picks it up, and thinking she is doing the world a great service,
Throws it away.

It doesn’t matter

Author notes

Inspired by an episode of Touched by an Angel. I'm not religious, at least not in the popular sense, but I love the message of that show.

Critique me please? I mean, really critique me. If you didn't like something about it, for the love of a deity, TELL ME. I can take it if it will help me get better.
