Carefree Days of Summers Past

Bare feet running down the garden path,
Leaping gnarled roots so long familiar.
Scents of honeysuckle mingled with pine,
Strawberries are plucked and savored with tongue.
Bumble bees buzz among fragrant flowers,
Small hands reaching for butterfly wings.
Cooling of feet in swift flowing brook,
Turtles and tadpoles swim in the pond.
Swing flies high, with toes outstretched,
Billowing clouds almost in reach.

This is a very interesting poem. The scene reminded me of the one from the book Scarlet Letter When Pearl was by the brook. It was like the scene was being re-created in my mind.

If one simply reads words, this is a nice poem. If one allows the words to form vivid images and feel through the author's heart, this is outstanding!

What a lovely poem. I can remember all these things in my own childhood and in my children's childhood years. They do make for wonderful memories. This was a delight to read this morning. Thank you so much for entering my contest. I appreciate it. Best of luck to you. Take care, Sandy
