Wish of a Willow

It takes a million voices just to open our ears
only one for God to hear
We've shamed our love
and betrayed our hearts
with no hope for personal salvation
luckily heaven's dress code isn't as strict

Our love is like the light from burning woods
painful to the blind eye, but too beautiful to look away
our hearts left as ash where the brush once stood
Somewhere beneath it all life is waiting to bloom
years after the last flame has fell
drenched by the eyes that now see so clearly
we were burning our own path to hell

Smoke rises as a signal
saving ashes of what may seem dead
scattering them through the soil
from which a willow grows
fresh and new
draped as a gentle curtain over the heart
shadowing soil,
where frustrations grew
unable to keep them apart

- the whispering willow

Author notes

I am going through a rough time in my relationship right now and I pray God guides us to keep us together and forgiving so we can grow from it all, together.

There's more to this poem than the first reading portrays. We are coming up from the ashes as we purify our minds. I liked:
'Our love is like the light from burning woods
painful to the blind eye, but too beautiful to look away'

A good write here; I think you've written it really well. None of the lines sound awkward, they all read quite well. I wouldn't change a single bit of this poem.
