The ultimate sandwich

Missing image
The ultimate sandwich

Now this is what I call a snack to eat.
My mouth quite drools when looking at the plate.
Such heaped-up food in layers can’t be beat
but whets my appetite so I can’t wait.

With layer on top of layer of juicy food -
all kinds of meat, eggs, salad have I got.
Just looking at it puts me in the mood
to eat it quick before I drop the lot.

And that, my friends, would be a shame to waste.
Today’s my birthday, so this is my treat
to try and eat it all, enjoy the taste,
then have all kinds of ice cream for my sweet.

To make a Dagwood fit for any King
with layers piled high, you just add everything.

    Dear Angelica,

A few more sandwiches like that one and they will have to re-operate on you...what a mouthful...Dagwood always could drum up a nice one...but I agree with Hugh, how in the world can a person get their mouth open wide enough to take a bite...Hope you are feeling up to par by now!

Happy belated birthday and good luck in the contest..., Darlene

Purrrrrsonally, we want our human to make us a tuna, chicken, mouse, sparrow, chipmunk sandwich, scratch the bread, with a hint of canip and plenty of whipped cream! lol!

    What a fun sonnet!

Best of luck in the judging!

Oh Joan, I can't see you eating such a big sandwich, there's enough there to feed a family. Haha. I enjoyed reading your poem very much. Hugh told me all about the ice cream you both had at Sumner and how yours dropped onto your jumper making a lovely pattern of different colours. I hope you wore your bib the kids gave you because you are renown for spilling food down your front. Haha
Great poem, good luck in the voting.

First, happy birthday, though it was officially yesterday I believe.

Second, there are few things better than a big sandwich. Whether a Dagwood, a sub, A Hoagie, an Italian (a Maine thing) or just a common baloney sandwich they are hard to beat. Have a nice cold Moxie on the side with some potato chips and a ball game on TV and life is good.

    Third, Now I'm hungry.

Fourth, I just stole your sandwich.

    Dear Bea,

Two questions: 1. How do you actually EAT one of those without 'dropping the lot'. I know your mouth is not THAT big that you could take a whole bite!
    2. What about the weight you got rid of in hospital? Are you gonna pile it all back?
This is a beaut poem about LAYERS all right. Do you put beetroot in as well? (Edna hates beetroot). Be careful with those coloured icecreams down your front!
Thanks for entering our contest #48 - you don't miss many. Happy day-after-your-birthday.
Best of luck in the voting. Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

It was very hard Hugh and like the Ice cream in Sumner I wore a lot on my clothes. Yes, I put beetroot on it, HEAPS!
As for the weight going back on, I hope not!

The more layers the better in this tasty treat or it appears to be more like a feast and oh what a challenge to keep it together stacked while you eat. lol

Hope you thoroughly enjoyed your special day.

Wonderful poem which made me smile wide enough to take a bite of that sandwich myself. Happy to see you and your entry, Angelica. Best of luck in the voting.

So, you're the one responsible for the big bite out of my Dagwood? But that's ok there was plenty for everyone. It certainly was a feast though, hope you enjoyed your share.

Oh, I can just picture sweet Angelica
    tossing aside her lady-like manners,
opening wide, wider, wider to capture
    the multi-layers of a Dagwood.

A wild and colorful birthday dinner, indeed!
(But better eat it quickly before Yem wakes up!)

Love and hugs to you, bday girl!

When I was quite young I always wanted to have a Dagwood sandwich. I'd imagine what all I could pile it with and how could I eat it since I wouldn't be able to get my mouth open wide enough... AHHHH !! Such outrageous dreams we had in our youth.

Is today really your birthday, Joan ??... if so, Happy Birthday !!!
and good luck in the contest
