A Fond Goodbye

Farewell, dear Patrick, you fought a hard fight
I awoke to the news that you lost it last night.
I knew the day would inevitably come,
when your battle would be done.

Your fan I have been for years upon years,
the news this morning moved me to tears.
Pray as I might that you'd win this war,
this kind of cancer has a high score.

The flawless moves of your dancing are gone,
though in film the images of it live on.
I've seen "Dirty Dancing" so many times,
enough that I can recite every line!

"Ghost", another remarkable score,
now that you're gone, it means so much more.
The image of you walking away towards the light,
I imagine that's how it was last night.

The line about taking the love along with you
will hopefully help Lisa to get through.
Your spirit will be there to guide her along.
The love you shared will live long after you're gone.

For all of your fans, you'll live on in our hearts.
By watching your movies we won't be apart.
As we ask God the question that burns in us, "Why?"
We remember you with fondness, and bid you goodbye.

This is a wonderful tribute. Yeah, that last scene in Ghost does mean that much more now, doesn't it? It's kind of eerie in fact. But this is a wonderful poem. I hope that his wife knows the support and love Patrick had when he was alive, and now.

This moved me to tears again, for the poem I wrote this morning gave me that same image looking back then looking forward to walk into the light, nice flow, just was everything I would want to say and then some. Remarkable tribute, thanks for entering. Blessings.

      Thank you...

he touched all of us in some way...as I mentioned in the poem, I have seen Dirty Dancing literally a hundred times...it is my all time favorite movie. Hearing the news of him having cancer upset me, but finding out what kind of cancer panicked me because I knew that the mortality rate of pancreatic cancer is nearly zero. He fought, and he fought hard...and he spared us more than himself, which I found to be very noble and brave. He was the most wonderful person that I never met!!

    Beautiful...

This is another beautiful tribute to Patrick Swaze. You did his memory well. I did not find out until this morning and my heart dropped. I remembering hearing the news of the cancer and hoping upon hope that he could beat because he was one of the Greatest Actors on the screen and in nobility in his life. Great piece you have penned here.
