Long after times of sorrow, she dances a polka
spins fast on her feet, a wind of excitement
blowing from within.
She plays with her smile watching him
through her eyelashes as she turns
faster faster.
Long hair of amber colour follows her,
impudently slapping bystanders.
In the centre of this celebration
her black dress feels odd and lonely.
She takes refuge under
cherry trees of Japanese spring
connecting with life’s colours.
An awkward desire
stretches her mourning attire
embarrassed by her charms
her curves her youth.
A persistent breeze blowing on cherry trees,
stirs imagination, disrupts convention,
night is broken by pink confetti
polka dots dresses forever sexy.
