tango in the rain

a simple embrace to carry us through the day
two lovers awaiting the night
when our world would be complete
and all the wrongs made right

our love has seen us through
the many disappointments and tears
while smiles and laughter filled our lives
we overcame life’s burdens and fears

all the time we danced the dance of love
our sorrows and smiles unyielding
dancing, turning, escaping, returning
one day upon the other, building

our love has seen us through
the good times and the bad
as in unison we swayed with the music
always cherishing the time we had

it’s raining now, but the sun still shines
we’ve stories yet untold
we still dance the dance of love
as layer upon layer our lives unfold

and if someday our sunshine fades
‘neath the blanket of love we’ll remain
forever lovers we’ll live our lives
and tango in the rain

A lovely poem! A tango itself has such complexities and layers of feeling and meaning that it's such a perfect dance to choose: that last line is so beautiful and fitting to end on! So romantic!

Dear Dee, I've only just been able to get to a PC, sorry I'm late in commenting.
A wonderful poem on true love, it is wonderful when the love is there to be cherished forever. Your poem is very beautiful, I loved reading it very much and I love the tango, Heath and I sometimes dance in our living room to the tango. Good luck in the voting.

    Hine.

This is a song, Dee, lovely images, meter and rhyme; more, you have a portrait of life-long love which is extremely endearing. Storms come and go, how wonderful to have a partner to dance with through them all. Cheers, M

    beautifully expressed

The rhyme and alliteration are harmonious. The meter is as paced and as balanced as the tango that you speak of. I really appreciate the homage to the experience that life has be-gifted you. Your words are thoughtful and sincere...not to mention that I'm a sucker for the rain. It's good to read more of your work.

    Romance in a dance,
    you tell the story lovingly,
    sweeping the years along
    in the unfolding of your
    layers of love.

    A beautiful piece, dee.

    Dear Dee,

My tango wouldn't earn a second glance,
in fact, somehow, I never got a chance,
for the girls would all retreat
    to protect their dainty feet
from my clumsy steps which always killed romance.

I tried it once when I was young and bold.
My partner quit and left me in the cold.
She said: "One tuirn with you
and my toes are black and blue
and you bruise my boobs with such a rigid hold."

So I never got to tango in the rain
and I doubt I'll ever get the chance again
    and even when it's dry
all the girls would pass me by
'coz I guess they thought it wasn't worth the pain.

Perhaps I'd do better if I tried it with you?
Your poem makes in sound really nice.Thankyou for entering and best of luck in the voting. (I'm glad I don't get to vote because I'd want everyone to win.)

Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

I don't even know where to begin Dee. There are so many things that stand out for me in this piece.

Your use of the tango alone brings so much more imagery to the read. I can vividly see the dancers, the lovers, choreographing their steps in life following the twists, turns and dips with grace, precision and passion. Love is the music they dance to and when it rains or storms, one needs only to turn up the volume to keep the rhythm and not miss a step.

This is a wonderfully written piece Dee and great take on the prompt. I thoroughly enjoyed the read. Thanks so much for entering the contest and best of luck in the voting.

It's lovely and speaks of love that endures. Knowing that a relationship ought not to be a sprint, but a marathon. It is written eloquently, expressing what seems to be rare, an enduring love. I used to be pretty good at guessing who would win the Hugie contests so I'm on record that this will be in the top two.

a wondrous poem that sparkles like stars, ah the dance of love, how smooth it is, even in the sadder times the rhythm flies across the face of life, and in the joyous times, it glides like music playing within the spirit's bright light.
