On her father's arm
In a ivory wedding gown
That was flowing with layers of lace
Vows of love spoken, happy radiant
A glowing smile on each others face
Off to the reception for presents and toasts
A three layered buttercream cake
Sparkling wine,laughter, and jubilant jokes
The reception over too soon
Bride and groom hurry away
A designer wedding gown
Worn just once, soon to be put away
Layers of lace, laughter and tears
As the photographer took pictures
Of the couples most memorable day
Off on their honeymoon
Amid palm trees and the ocean
Their life is full of happiness and devotion
Lying in bed she smiles and sighs
As one tiny teardrop falls from her eye
Vowing never to forget
Her wedding day
In her gown of ivory
And many layers of lace

Im not holding my breath but have two beautiful daughters ready for weddings however their ideas are different to mine. AS long as they're happy. I may slip your poem to them LOL!

-
What a lovely poem! Gracious, graceful and charming! Best of luck in the judging!

These rites of passage must be celebrated and remembered. One hopes that the marriage is as good as the wedding, what a pity if the first day is the best. This story is acted out countless times each day, you wrote a relatable and poignant poem. Best of luck!

-
beautiful, touching and very sad it is like the day that came dressed well clad to wear this once and put it back like a in a looking glass to see in many years to come... and dream of the special day she wore the ivory lace and said I do... Hugs Angel♥

Every woman should know what it is to feel beautiful. It is icing, to be sure, but love is a celebration of life, and it is the reason for beauty.
That is an exquisite dress, enough to make most grooms misty-eyed. Wow!
...I think you touch on the opulence and dreams of formal weddings to make a cherished memory very well in this write.

Dear Molly,
The father's thinking: "What a racket !
This wedding's costing me a packet -
that bridal dress, the satin shoes,
the wedding feast and all that booze.....
Our relatives who're always rude,
at my expense all stuffing food,
and all the other wedding gusts
applauding best man's feeble jests
"To give my little girl away
is worth the fortune I must pay
to have this chap, without much sense,
responsible for her expense.
I don't know why her mother weeps
now we've got rid of her for keeps
but, as I watch her husband kiss her,
I guess I'm going to somehow miss her.
"I wonder whether I'll be missed
if I just sneak off and get pissed?"
Sorry, Molly, Your beaut picture and poem just inspired my Muse to this bit of devilry. Thanks for entering Pixie's 'layers' contest in such a great way.
Best of luck in the voting (and don't forget to vote!)
Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

Three other cousins wore my wedding gown. My parents paid big bucks for that dress and whenever someone else was getting married and had no gown, I offered it to them. It finally got lost and now the last cousin who wore died two years ago so II feel a little sad that I'll never get the dress back but even sadder that my little cousin is gone. Wow! Your poem brought back all those memories. Thanks!

I wish you well in the challenge.
Always ♥

All the layers of the special day will be neatly stored in the memory, preserved like the ivory wedding gown of satin and lace.

Oh, Susan, you captured the moments, beautifully.
And what better subject for layers, the luxurious
wedding gown and the sumptuous layers of cake,
all holding memories as the years pass by and
create more loving layers!!
Great piece, Susan!!!
