upon a sunless day
within the reaper’s grasp
the broken dreams plummet
and the flower wilts in my hand
you saw that flower didn’t you?
you knew it was there all along
yet you never spared a passing glance
nor a drop of water to nourish it
you ignored that little flower
you let it die in my grasp
you let it fade into a memory
and take a place in the past
see how the petals blacken
and fall to the heavens
see how they escape
the reaper’s deathly grip
they travel to a place
where they can be at peace
they travel to a field
where nothing grows but weeds
that’s where I stand on this day
watching the flower come together
at my feet petal by petal
it returns to itself once again
I bend down and wrap a hand
around its stem
and gently pull until
the roots give in
the flower begins to blossom
as I hold it in my hands
nourishing it back to health
so it can begin to live once again
Author notes
This is for a Flower I know. This one's for my baby sister, Rozie. The sweetest Flower anyone could ever hope to meet.
