The Eternal Battle

Listen.
These words
are True:

When I
to you
lies pale and still,
stiff and cold.

Dead and Gone.

Remember then
that I’m
still there.
Crying blood.

For you.

Fighting on.

I essentially told this to a girlfriend once who was breaking up with me. I thought it showed a measure of my conviction...it fell on deaf ears, you can't make someone feel what they no longer feel. To think we can is self-centered.

She needed to move on and because of that, I needed to move on, we moved on, I stopped thinking I had to be there for her, or for myself.

I guess what I am saying is, excellent poem.
