we walk hand in hand down the street

her flip-flops slap the street
my sneakers kick the stone
springy is our step
we are all our own
our anger is inept
our happiness is vast
as the color in her face
its sad we're the last
of the lovers in this race
summer's almost over
so before its been awhile
