Kelsey Briggs, Kelsey (In Memory of )

Missing image

K isses from Heaven rained down on us all

E specially on a little angel that was taken

L ove is being showered covering deaths call

S weet little Kelseys life was brutally shaken

E very day an angelic cry would sound out

Y ears of torment claiming the light of this child

B racing herself when the battle came about

R eaching for hope from a mother gone wild

I  nnocence weeping searching for some light

G rave are the images that mother and lover made

G irl bruised and broken, she has now lost the fight

S truggling she fought until the dimmest of light fades

K isses of pain now tug at a million souls today

E veryone feeling for the child with no choice

L ife of a child worth more than words can say

S uch abuse horrendous, no one heard her voice

E xercise your right, stand up and be a voice for the young

Y our fighting instict may one day stop, what should of never begun

Kelsey Briggs

http://kelsey-briggs.memory-of.com/About.aspx

This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Kelsey Briggs who was born in Oklahoma on December 28, 2002 and passed away on October 11, 2005 at the age of 2. We will remember her forever.

After nine months of documented abuse and two court hearings a Judge sent Kelsey back home to an abusive home. She remained in state custody and was to be supervised by state agencies. Her father was in Iraq fighting for our country while Kelsey was here fighting for her life.

On October 11, 2005 she was murdered. The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the abdomen. Two weeks later her stepfather was arrested on first degee murder. Her mother was later charged with two felonies of Child Abuse and Enabling Child Abuse. In April 2006 Kelsey's body was exhumed for a second autopsy where sexual abuse was documented. The stepfather's charges were amended to add the sexual abuse.

On February 2, 2007 a plea negotiation was entered and approved by the paternal family. The stepfather plead guilty to a reduced charge of Enabling Child Abuse and received 30 years in prison. He has no possibility of parole for 25.5 years.

The mother was found guilty of Enabling Child Abuse and sentenced to 27 years in prison. She is asking for a new trial. Trial notes for Raye Dawn's trial are available on kelseyspurpose.org

A new law has been named for Kelsey in Oklahoma to prevent this type of failure in our state system.

PASSIONSPROMISE: My OWN Words

God forgive me for my thoughts on this situation, for I have battled many many cases and spoke to many many people on abuse/rape ect, and let me tell you, no story and I mean NO story breaks your heart more then one of a child being tragically taken by ones that were meant to protect and love her.. This tore my heart, although a christian womanI hope they get what they deserve, as for the father and grandmother, I only wish God can heal and mend your hearts. Your precious gift is now touching the hearts of many...more and more each day, and I will see to it. I am making changes to speak louder on this issue and support in other areas.
God willing one day, one day this madness will stop.

This is one poem that is done wonderfully. It tore at my heart strings, and I pray that there will never be another reason to write another poem like this.

Your words brought tears to my eyes...for the love and compassion is so evident. Bless her little heart. It is bad enough...awful enough...but when the government sends an innocent victim back to be murdered and tortured...it is INEXCUSABLE!!!

Prosecute the social workers...lawyers and judges involved...they are just as much to blame. All filthy criminals in my opinion. I have no compassion for abusers...NONE!

Thank you for sharing your light of love for the abused.

    I love you~

You know.. I think my country has one of the worst records of this kind of child abuse.. it just breaks the heart. How could anyone do this to a defenceless child These people need locking up and throwing away thekey!

Such a sad story. Abusers of children deserve nothing less than being tortured themselves. I hope they are haunted every waking day of their lives.

Child abuse is uncalled for, death of a child is something that should be judged to the top of all crimes...blunt force ,how harsh of a death to be falling to a baby...The time give is not near enough punishment, the needle is to easy
and the chair is not harsh enough hang him high and mother needs serious
time...this is my way of looking at CRIMINALS
    thank you for sharing

As much as I am saddened by the actual subject of this poem and the circumstances surrounding it, the content of the poem itself didn't do anything for me. I didn't feel anger, or grief, or loss, as one would normally expect from a poem of this subject. It seemed to objective and unfeeling. I believe this poem could be much more emotionally articulate instead of simply telling her story.

Again, that is my opinion, and I greatly feel for the subject from which this poem was inspired.

    May she rest in peace.

First off this was in her memory and wasnt meant to be hostile and angry. It was to honor a young child beyong the brutality of what happened. I for one know first hand abuse and do NOT at all find it easy to pen, especially for a little child such as this one. I wanted something a little tame. I had one that would of tore your heart out written a month ago and because of such that it was AP removed it.
      Thank you for stopping in

good for you...this child deserves an honored memory, like so many children in this society simply lost...when there were signs of trouble that were ignored, danger signs not heeded; the effort to avoid a repeat seems too little to late, but it is what must be done, it is the good that can come of this...all the best...PK

One of the best memorial tributes I have ever read. Jeff is so right; the best acrostician on the site. I know JohnnyD has forbidden me to comment on your poetry but this is too beautiful to pass up and he has already been here. This is truly a masterpiece Tory.

    Love,

You remain the best acrostician on the site and this is a powerful piece, I wish there had never been a cause to write.

We have had a couple of dreadful cases relatively recently over here. Evility knows no International boundaries.

    Love

    Jeff

This tore on my heart. I can't fathom the cruelty that was continually wrought upon this little girl. As a parent, my heart and prayers go out to all of her loved ones. Two years ago, a baby died from 3rd degree burns in Oregon after her "father" put her

    Tory,
I know how these stories just rip you apart- and why. While reading such tears your heart out I figure penning these writes does more to help your pain than one realizes. People who do such horrid things to children deserve the eternity of hell they shall eventually receive.
To say any more is mute at this point as you know full well my feelings of such atrocities, so I will leave you with a "Well done, and beautiful pen "for Kelsey and all children who suffer such terrors- so young.

Love ya Tory- for who you are
