Jack Pot

A step forward and two backward,
Pixiestix provides the map,
North surrounded by the sea and sharks,
East our getaway in Sail ships.

South to west we seek treasures,
Hatchets cutting through the foliage,
Guns fire to keep wild bears away,
We come upon Nazi bunkers.

Nasty places with skeletons,
Dark place reeking with age and death,
We spend the night in fear waiting,
Knowing we have hit the treasure.

Seafaring pirates on land,
Long for the seas rocking motion,
Within the tunnels we locate,
Chest full of antique jewelry.

Author notes

Twenty lines or less.
Epilogue:

A pouch to my breast-coat I slide,
Pirate-mates pick pieces,
Stuffing them in their big knapsacks,
A wooden leg keeps me upright.

At sea…
Locked cabin I open the pouch;
Diamonds gleam I hit the jackpot.

Thanks for including me in your exciting pirate tale. The pirate life is glamourized I think but you give an account through a realist's eyes of the horrors and struggles faced in the treasure race.

Nicely done. Thanks so much for entering the contest.

Well said, good Pirate! An exciting poem of pirate adventure turned very dark. Aye, a good penning, most surely and truly.
