They are discovered by accident, these sources of light
replacing her darkness with whispering love
she focuses on faces, static, unchanging
imagining words pouring forth there, in tune
from perpetual smiles, formed of the sun
in photos reflecting a singular mood...
I have recently detected a crack in her mood
as if eyes, ever open, are retreating from light
as if mind, growing weary, needs shade from the sun
where moods beneath surfaces wander from love
when songs of her soul sing a varying tune
hidden beneath her photo unchanging...
But her prismed rainbow, delightful, unchanging
her facial expression fixed in one mood
her promises singing her singular tune
still carry one’s thoughts on unwavering light
drawing one in, drawing out love
steadfast and true, as sure as the sun...
Yet I sense more there now, not of the sun
more than her glittering features unchanging-
something outside of the photo-locked love
as if in a state of uncertain mood
shifting uneasily beneath the light
buried in dirges, or an unmentioned tune...
My mind begins pondering the moods of this tune
of anger, of sadness, of rejecting the sun
shocked, or depressed, starving for light
compassionate, tearful, but never unchanging
fears, uncertainty affecting the mood
a journey through darkness before renewed love...
Shall I leave it alone, her photo of love
let her sing forever her chosen tune
imparting her preferred singular mood
as if lit by a static, unmoving sun
locked in a world, ever unchanging
imparting to all her perpetual light?
I will leave her in light, in perpetual love
ever unchanging, singing her tune
with static sun, in her singular mood.

This is a fine sestina, the rules all in place...wonderful flow with the story and endwords. The words "static" and "imparting" used twice each feels like a slight speedbump to this reader, as viable alternatives could be found. All in all, a wonderful peice.

love your choice of words for the sestina. Wonderfully done and with a great finish.

you mean a love tune mood in the sun's unchanging light?! Hmmm... good alternate title...!

Poetic power and heart
This sestina is a compelling testament to the power of photographs and analytical minds. You've obtained so much from this photograph--- love, light, and mood unchanging, you described the heart so well, the actual photo pales by comparison. I liked how you related the mood unchanging to perpetual love. If ever there were a mood we wish to remain unchanging, it would be love. Though you sense "uncertainty" and "shifting" in her mood, how wonderful is it that you still believe she imparts "perpetual light"? For that reason, the sixth sestet is my favorite. The tercet is like the timpani's ending to a grand symphony. It shows your most magnanimous heart.

If We Ever Toasted Together...
it would be to photographs and analytical minds... -

That's a pretty fantastic alternate title! I'll break out my best bottle of gingerale....

Beautifully drawn photograph
This is you at your analytical best. How you have taken the photograph and "drawn" from it this most smooth-flowing documentary sestina is nothing short of amazing. So much so that we need not even see the photograph, for you have described her so well. It is most kind of you, after your indepth analysis, to "leave her in light, in perpetual love". "Perpetual love" is a state many seek but cannot find. You shared a bit of it here....

Carried Away...
it was inspired by (and supposed to be on) the peril of photographs here... I guess I became carried away by the analytical... (which was, by the way, on 'seeing more into' the photo, maybe trying to sense the more complete person underneath, which gets back to the peril of photographs here- just relying on the static surface visuals in trying to understand a person to any lasting depth)... (and yes, it was Kate's pic (I don't know if she knows it), for she seemed to be 'leading' with it lately, which I think is a mistake on this site! )(hence the 'peril'- which is, in the end, a shallow relationship destined for heartache, disappointment, and failure...)

Gave you five stars for your reply, even though it ended on such a dreadful note! Kate's pic, funny. She only has about 3 pictures of herself. She is, as they say, not a "picture" person (so you're bound to see the same ones over). By the way, if you getting carried away is going to result in writing a piece as poetically inspiring and moving as this on, then may you get carried away more often! Yes, do get carried away....

-
maybe that should be an official rule for writing sestina's- write on something that carries you away...!
