your last remaining conceit

and now that small flash of brilliance,
your last remaining conceit

like that episode at the retail counter
and how that small flash of brilliance was...

hilariously,  your last remaining conceit...
as in, "regarding of oneself with often excessive favor”

as you walked out,
and then there was this funny understanding that

when the mark exits he understands that
he is indeed the better man for it.

Please tell me what you think

I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!

I like your style Bob. You are a very witty writer. I like that in a writer. Thanks for a good read!

  • ouch! That last line could sting! Abraham Lincoln said it is better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Sometimes, unfortunately, when we are at our most foolish selves, we are utterly unaware. Only time and perspective brings shame... and too late to rectify.
This was an interesting character study...I am intrigued by that word "last" and wondering if the guy has passed or what to cause his improvement.

    Interesting idea!

Love the comment by neurosine below. Funny.

I think that was Mark Twain..."Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."
Lincoln was y'know...less witty. More dry. Like a troglodyte.

Still....that's not the most important thing to concentrate on here.
My admiration for this writer is unyielding and really does equate to unconditional love. Yes Bob, I love you. I've already declared this publicly for my wife, but a great mind should never be ignored, and you certainly have one.

Please give him shit but let's be better poets than we are drama queens.

      • OH, gosh! You've never read The Quotable Lincoln? An absolute riot, man... I'd loan you my copy, but it's chained to that porcelain thingy where it belongs.

But you are a riot! This is one of my favorite comments ever!

    Was that conceit or receipt?
If you'd have gotten the receipt, would you have felt better?
I don't know. This is one reason why I avoid retail.

    poet

Narcissisim, is it a weakness in man or just the need to be noticed? I wonder are poets guilty of such self devotion? But you have nailed in for still...the finger picks the nose.

Thanks for your comment. To me the need to be noticed is a weakness and when making of a fool of myself not being noticed seems more desirable
