Delusion

Four white walls enclose my soul,
Bloody feathers of lost wings litter the floor.
Every tear is another memory lost.
I am doomed as Icarus, I flew too close to the
SUN

Diagnose my life and leave me to die.
I never thought you'd be one to lie,
But now my blood is bled
But I can't be dead,
Because I know that you're still alive.

This love that I spent on one last hope,
All my cards were on the table and my bet was on you.
I wanted to be there when you had to go,
But these ties were severed months ago.
I've left so many bruises, I'm bleeding my heart out
But there's just nothing that will win you back.
I guess I've learned a lesson, though it's hard to follow--
Never let it all go and bet it all on black.

Diagnose my life and leave me to die.
I never thought you'd be one to lie,
But now my blood is bled
But I can't be dead,
Because I know that you're still alive.

I feel the fear growing in my chest now.
I block it all out, my world a black abyss.
I press my ears to the walls, but hear my muffled screams
Bleeding through the cushions.
(This room is a lie.)

YOU SAID YOU'D MAKE ME BETTER
YOU SAID YOU'D CURE THIS PAIN
I NEVER THOUGHT YOU'D LIE TO ME
THIS LOVE WAS ALL IN VAIN

Never let the one you love
Get too close to your heart.
If you ever give an inch to anyone,
THEY WILL TEAR YOUR SOUL APART

Author notes

This was definitely a very personal poem for me and by far the most disturbing that I have yet imagined. The metaphor of being trapped in an asylum, a person who is described as mythological Icarus, was definitely my best idea yet. It describes love as flying, but the character in this poem (a metaphorical version of myself) "flew too close to the/ SUN." In other words, the character (again, me) was too careless in that love, flying too close to the person they cared about and getting burned because of it. Their wings fell apart and they fell to their doom, caged in by their own failure. The last stanza, however, was pretty self-explanatory. It's basically just saying to be careful, even in love, for you never know what the other person is really thinking.

Anyway... hope you enjoyed it.
