Let Me Count The Ways

You loved me first as a sweet young miss,
Never laughing at my mumbled words and fumbled kiss.

You became my tender temptress and teacher,
Loving me 'till soon we sought a preacher.

You loved me then as my blushing bride.
When we tied the knot I could not hide my pride.

Then you loved me as my wedded wife,
Together we continued our journey through life.

Soon you loved me as a contented mother
As we were blessed by the life of another.

Then when the bairns had grown and gone
Your love continued so true and so strong

We have known each other for many a year
Holding hands we smile and call each other dear.

As each new challenge came in view
You loved me --- and I loved you!

    Great

I loved the easy flow, the easy reading, yet there was still an abundance of emotion in your words.
Btw-I like rhyming too don't really get free verse xD

    Cheers, Joshua.

    I suppose it's not v challenging

    ....but thank God for that!

It is what it is, the rhymes are not unnatural, the tale is a happy one.

Rather unfairly, although I have no suggestions, I sense that a little pepper would enhance the thing, perhaps even a deliberate irregularity, or one unexpected word. And this from me who hates the obscure!

Whilst I appreciate the fact that you took time to read and comment on this poem I am unsure of what you mean when you say "not very challenging"
To my mind poetry does not have to be challenging and, if it is, then its appeal for most readers drops to near zero.
As you go on to say "it is what it is" a simple little tale.
I know many poets write in metaphors and similies but most of my stuff is WYSIWYG.
Once again thanks for reading and commenting on this poem and others.

Could have been written for me

I've been happily married 51 years never 'known' another man in the biblical sense never wanted to. Hasn't been roses all the way but then who ever said love was easy?

I was no young temptress though as he's 9 years older, I couldn't have taught him anything lol

I'm glad you liked it and happy you found a "good-un". I'm still looking but I'm no longer optimistic

Many thanks Pam. It's nice to know that my stuff is appreciated. Especially since this crusty old bachelor had no idea what he was writing about on this topic
