Throwing my heart away one picture at a time

Connection fades away
leaving our lavender blossoms wilting
as each photograph of us
falls in the trash.

You've expressed a world of emotion in these few words. I've thrown away a few photographs, some of family some of old boyfriends, etc and later regreted losing them.
But photos can bring back all kinds of memories, some of which can hurt along with the ones which bring us joy, and some even bring both kinds of memories.

This is a very good piece and I wish you best of luck in the contest

It's fantastic what you wrote in so few words.

This reminded of a painful break-up I went through when I was 23. I was very much in love, but she went back to her ex-husband. I do still have a couple of photos of my first love from high school. Fortunately, my wife and I aren't the jealous types.

I can't throw them in the trash. I end up putting them away in some old book and never look at them, but to throw them away, it's odd, but I can't. I guess the memories of the good times still mean something...in some minuscule way, lol

But I know the feeling...and one old girlfriend I did throw every photo away and now wish I'd just kept one, just to remember what she looked like. I really can't remember, lol

But this poem is about emotion and hurt and that feeling of a permanent end...and works as such.

You paint such a sad picture here, McBatman and quite well I might add. You've managed to say so much in so few well chosen words.

I think the use of the color lavendar for the blossoms for example further emphasizes the loss, the "fading" of what was most likely a vibrant purple at one time...also a color of passion.

    Nicely done.

This was true thing that happened about 8 years ago. The realization that the relationship was over didn't hit me until I threw each picture of her away one at a time after staring at them heart broken. Thanks for reading and commenting Kittiestix!

I'm sorry it's a true story. Sometimes it does take action like that for the reality to set in. I guess in a way it could also be a form of closure which we need before we can move on.

    The words, the presentation
unite to create a silent ache
    on the page, no sound
    but the almost imperceptible
    flutter of one photograph
    after another, falling.
    T-D, you make visual
    the sadness of heartbreak.
    Quiet kudos to you...
