If you knew what air tasted like,
You wouldn't be breathing it.
It wouldn't be half as mundane
as it is
because
breathing
is reflexive
and you can't make yourself
stop
just to savor a breath
instead of taking one.
and
If you knew what air tasted like
we might be talking
instead of just
walking
past each other
because
If you knew
If you really knew
you'd tell me
and teach me
to taste the difference
between mountain mornings
and city nights.
How each has subtle notes
of happiness
that mix
with the oxygen,
the nitrogen,
and the little bit of water.
Perhaps
If you knew how to taste air,
you could tell me
why the stars
are so far away
without speaking science.
You'll tell me that
they're just like us.
They think and feel
just like us.
I'll ask you if they're lonely.
You'll ask me if I'm lonely.
I'll ask you if you're lonely.
You'll say yes.
Then we'll ponder whether trees can dance
Whether they move
instead of just wave branches.
You'll insist that they can't
but I know.
Every minute motion
is an art.
Each flick of a leaf
is a dance.
You'll ask me to teach you -
I can't dance.
You'll call me a liar -
I'm telling the truth!
You'll sip your green tea frappachino,
I'll chew my pumpkin bread.
You still don't belive me,
But I take you to a park.
we watch the trees dance in the breeze -
I told you they could!
You'll laugh,
and we'll dance like trees.
And maybe you'll teach me what
a kiss
feels like.
Maybe you'll teach me what
real love
feels like.

this is great! i really like it, especially the personification (which is most of the poem, but i like the whole thing, so!). i like the back-and-forth of the you'll-say-and-i'll-say lines, that works really well.

me gusta mucho miv! you did some good revisions and it sounds really nice now. you have quite the interesting setup on your poem. you sometimes put one word on a line. is this for emphasis?

without speaking sceinces the answers can't bring the t hout the truths the truth is stated through the imagination..isn't..? well said..

Don't you already KNOW what a kiss feels like....? KIDDING KIDDING KIDDING. DON'T KILL ME. Anyway, I like this. The part about dancing trees is very cool.
