You need layers of clothing
to protect you from the chill
You need layers of prayers
to heal you when you're ill
You need layers of good teachers
to forget that longed-for bell
You need layers of real carers
to help you to get well
You need layers of intuition
to foresee great events
You need layers of sound judgment
to exhibit common sense
You need layers of creative words
to write a poem worth keeping
You need layers of bright imagery
to amuse you while you're sleeping
You need layers of true friends to call
who mean the world to you
Like layers of paint upon the wall,
you must have at least two!
(When you have all the layers you need,
there's nothing on earth you can't do!)

Hey Sis!
Sorry you've been so sick. I haven't been feeling well either. I have a rash I have to have tested for Lyme Disease. I have toothache in several teeth that will probably have to be pulled. My pain pills don't seem to be working the way they used to. I can't get a solid night's sleep. My abdomen is the size of a volley ball (and I still don't have one doctor or dentist that I trust). Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper these days.
(Guess I must be missing some layers.)
Love and Hugs,
♥ Maureen

Dear Maureen, very beautiful lines in your couplets, I love the way you work out how to write a poem, sounds like a good way to write. Good luck in the voting.

beautiful
This poem brings together many factors of the good life, and it rolls along with lovely rhythm and sensible rhyme. When everything seems bad, it is good to read a poem like this and remember all the blessings which are still here. Thanks Maureen, and good luck in the contest.

You've depicted the important layers of our lives, Maureen. We have so many to help keep us strong. I'm sure some of them are at work right now helping you to feel better.
It seems your muse has returned in force
Good luck in the contest

Glad to see another post from you sis
Looks like your muse is comming back...
I liked all the layers about whom you have posted and who they are
What they do...........
And like the last two lines.........
(When you have all the layers you need,
there's nothing on earth you can't do!)
Perfect sis

Thanks a lot, Sis!
I hope my muse's vacation is over (at least until spring).
I'll be reading your entry tomorrow, Sis. I'm pooped. My body temp. keeps fluctuating. One minute I'm too hot, next minute I'm too cold (and I'm way past the change of life)
I should be comfortable once I get under my layers of blankets.
Love Ya!

Your first verses lead me to picture getting a nice big bear hug from the caring layers in our lives. My mother used to call hugs "the gas that keeps us going".
I enjoyed reading your insightful well written piece of how the many layers fuel and enrich our lives. Thanks so much for entering and best of luck in the voting.

Ah, the layers of confort
afforded by friendship,
by those who care
and say so---the best
layers of all.
Beautifully expressed, Maureen.
Wishing you well,
M-C

I haven't been reading all the entries (for obvious reasons) but my guess is this one will do quite well in the voting. Yes, it's all about layers. That is what I keep telling people about my fat stomach! It's just layers!

-
-
Thanks a lot, Yem!
I'll bet you're not fat (and I'm not just saying that)!
I used to have layers of hair but now it's a different story (Hair today, gone tomorrow)

Dear Maureen,
This is an absolute gem! If any Huguenauty can't think of 'layers' to write about, the entries so far should give them plenty of ideas and your poem here, written in your own adorable Maur-style with short, pithy, rhyming statements, should give them plenty of clues.
I told Heathcote: "Look! If Maureen can write a poem like this when she's so ill, you can get off your chuff and write something for Pixie!" (I think he's going to.)
Thankyou for entering, sweetheart. I wish you layers of good health and hope you're feeling a bit better. Best of luck in the voting.
Applause, Lots of love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

Thanks a lot, Dear Hugh!
I really appreciate what you had to say. I wrote this when I should have been sleeping (don't tell Mike).
I'm happy you enjoyed it! I'm still not feeling 'up to snuff'. Thanks for the applause, love and hugs!!!
Lots of Love,
Maureen xxoo
