Goji Berries.

I sit in a armchair of soft disposition
speak cautious words between sips of mint tea
munching on nuts and Goji Berries.

I hang on tangible air
there is something about my new friend
an ivory style in spoken tenacity
and precise motion.

A haste in seizing self determination
like she owns her future.

She swims on origami wings
from one room to another.
“ Bear with me I’ll tell you in a minute”.

I don’t want to tamper with
a venetian blind existence
and shove momentum
into neon light exposure.

I chew on more Goji
she finally lands on the sofa next to me
her hand sways up and down
with an imaginary yo-yo.

“I need you to look after my boys
just one night and one morning.”
She needs me and I feel honoured
because of that self confidence
she carries around like a Gucci bag.

“No problems I’ll do it tell me when.”
She sits back surprised by my
self assurance a veil of
bone-china dust in her eyes .

She blows a few words
“Let me show you, look!”
She removes her tee-shirt
awkward rescuer diving
in deep water.

“This is art but it needs
to be fixed” I stare at
a patchwork torso
of breast reconstruction
with no nipple.

know the feelings here, my mother is a survivor approaching 8 years, and have seen plenty of the Goji juice... its delicious stuff... it was in fact the title that drew me in, and gave me an instant connection to your piece..

Thank you for your visit and your nice comment, I hope your Mum is doing OK, my friend is doing well so far, it is because I talked to her the day before writing this poem that the inspiration about her story came to me.

This story is so incredibly rich. It's poetic, yes, but it's the STORY that captured me here, and that comes a long far and few between, sadly. I'm waiting for the ended, and was surprised, and that's also something that doesn't happen often enough. Lovely work. There's no pretense here. There's nothing to "pretty it up". It just exists, and that's what makes it so yummy. Thanks for entering.

Beautifully told story! It seems a joy to sit inside your head, eating nuts and berries, feeling with you your observations of your sailing new friend. Then, being riveted into place with the ending. Such an excellent piece.
    Love,

Wow, this is an amazing piece - so filled with tenuous angst and yet a mature assurance simultaneously... and then... for the shocking end! Very artfully done.

I really liked connection throughout the piece between the Goji and cancer. The suprise at the end is made even more powerful by the use of Goji Berries throguhout. It's like a mysterious string that you know is there but cannot fully understand until the end. I like it alot! Bravo!

Goji Berries are full of antioxidants because my friend had breast cancer she use to eat a couple of handfull everyday, Gojis come from Tibet, if you Google the name you can then send the link to the people who do not know about them.
