Mother, her quiet wisdom was listening;
she did not need to respond as I talked
my problems out. A little encouragement
all I needed to go on. It wasn't a surprise
after she died to find her wisdom printed
in her Bible, words underlinned for me
to discover where her towering strength
came to bear life lived with pain so long;.
wisdom too in what she'd added in notes,
slips falling out, poems, news articles
meant for me to know her quiet wisdom
keeping her counsel to herself so long
knowing I would sampe her Bible soon
where I could discover them and learn
again from scribbled notes in margins
how her wisdom applied to me as if
she were there to guide me with them.
