Two Frames of Mind

TWO FRAMES OF MIND (Written June 2nd , 2008)

Two frames of mind steal my peace of mind.
Days can paint themselves into a corner;
They become pitifully stifling when I let them.
I can forget a whole damn day sometimes,
when they are stupid and drenched in dark colors.

What happened there just doesn’t come, the time is lost forever.
Thoughts come and go, not meaning much; they come and go as they want.
My memories desire a place to belong, where they can fit in relative order.

The jangle of events evaporate in my sleep, the din of the days soon escape me.
One more floats off to some forgotten place, where all days are tenderly packed away.
The time is past, the meaning lost, not recognized or… maybe just not taken.

A hard sell to claim what is significant, or to prove what is utter nonsense.
All days, each day is different, some complex and some quite simple.
They melt into the same design that weaves my tapestry.

I let them pass, no big hurrah, my understanding is insufficient.
With no arrangement of my thoughts, I let them find their own place.
I’m sure I’ll come to recognize them when I cross their paths down the way.

Sometimes I need reminding, it’s not yet all behind me.
I’m aware that my days are numbered; I just haven’t kept up the count.

But there will be a day, a day of all days; I’m sure it will impress me entirely.
It will be my last one day, I’m sure I will recall.
This will be the day of days that I begin to fall away.
Eternity is waiting but it’s hard to recognize.

One small grain, drifting out and away without a whim or wish.
From here on in it doesn’t matter, no sense of time or rush
Among the haze and hollow I hope that I remember.
I hope I don’t forget myself, and lose all my memories.
But if I did, how would I know? I guess I’ll wait and see.
