Character

Wisdom is not awarded.
it is earned
by the acquisition
of virtue.

Compassion is not an prize
to  be accepted
on the world stage,
it is achieved by perseverance
of the human element

forgiveness ...

Tolerance can not be inherited,
passed on by the element
of righteousness ,
it must be a goal achieved
by accommodation

to all...

Mercy comes from within,
a benefit granted only
to those who have acquired benevolence
for their clemency towards those
who seek acceptance

yet...

lack the courage to apply for the same...

Trust is a gift of the angels
bestowed to only those
who comprehend the meaning
of its attainment,
value

consequence...

Courage is an achievement
acquired by circumstance alone,
reaching out for what
may not be visible
or attainable,
but determined to conqure it

at all cost...

Love is to believe in yourself,
in your goodness and humility

only then...

can you love another,
as yourself,
in the manner

The Lord intended...

His own...

    Flowing inspiration

These words were well placed upon the waterfall background, for they flow like drops of inspiration from above. To live by this poem would be to find a life of deep fulfillment. This is an inspiring goal for yourself and for all who read.

    Beautiful

Wonderful words of truth and wisdom; no doubt born from a life lived in search of the same. This poem flowed effortlessly, and delivered deep, yet simple life-lessons. (Its seldom as complicated as we make it, is it?) Beautiful work, Poet. A joy to read.

    "by acquisition of virtue", i take it you mean, common sense; however, wisdom is the virtue of common sense;
courage is not an achievement; it is performing that which is necessary, in spite of circumstance,...quibbles, mere quibbles. i would not change a thing in your beautiful effort. it is excellent as it stands...!

a very good piece of effort; well-thought out and written! a couple of things i can disagree with, but this effort is a serious write and my disagreement seems petty...! a good job!

Very wise and self reflective write. I agree with the sentiments expressed. It reminds me somewhat of the quote by Sen Dan Coats that in part states:
"Character cannot be summoned at the moment of crisis if it has been squandered by years of compromise and rationalization. The only testing ground for the heroic is the mundane"

    Great write

This is a very thoughtful, introspective piece, Poet. Indeed, I discovered a long time ago that true wisdom only arrives on our doorsteps when we submerge our egos, realizing that we may never learn all of the lessons there are to know in a single lifetime. Well penned and worthy of more in-depth perusals within ourselves. I'm pleased this piece was spotlighted. It deserves it.

of a man and womans soul!

A goal we all aspire to embrace!
and what a magnificent journey it is...

if ever you want to recognize me on this journey?
I'm the one...with scuffed knees learning the cement lessons
of humility.....oh...the landings can be brutal!

    John,

I take issue with your author notes. The man I have come to know, through your writings and comments, knows all of what is written here... How could you know these things without experiencing them in some way? I realize that an element of humility and modesty is a requirement of life but I feel you are well on your way in accomplishing these virtues. I see a man who is wise and kind. Those attributes are indeed that which you write with and share with every reader. I loved this poem and the fact that it is written by a man of your excellent "character".

    Much Love & Respect ♥

You might want to correct the following errors:

Compassion is not "an" prize -- it is "a" prize.

    "conqure" should be conquer.

Also -- I would have chosen to punctuate this piece differently. For this reader, thus piece was awkward due to that -- however, it has obviously caused me to pause and think

It is a noble thing to reach for such perfect balance between all things good and bad in this world, there can never be only good nor can there be only evil so we must learn to live and accept ourselves and always look to be something better than we were the day before.

What a great poem to share John, thank you so much for a wonderful read.

    Words to live by...

You poem is full with inspiration and truths. It explores the goals of good people everywhere. It is a gentle poem that prods us into thinking about what kind of person we are, and who we will become. If only we could achieve wisdom through virtue, compassion from forgiveness, mercy with acceptance, trust of values, couraage regarless of circumstance - but the greatest goal - Love through yourself, to yourself and to all others. This poem is much like a prayer. Certainly one who is struggling to understand their purpose in life might read it that way.

Wise words indeed. The sad part is how many heed them? in todays world the number may be down. As for love I believe that to be able to love another you must first be kinder and gentler to yourself. Always a fine read.

    AMAZING!!!

WOW! This is absolutely AMAZING! I am LOVING this entire piece. You have tapped into an awareness that is completely mind-boggling! The whole concept of this write is one that I can totally buy into. I feel silly carrying on and on about it but You have to know that this is exactly the kind of writing that appeals to me! I like that your author's notes say that this is the person you wish to be. The fact that you are so aware of the dynamics that it takes to acheive this goal makes it an absolute...Thank you John for sharing your vision. Good luck in all that you do...you are closer than you believe...

    Peace & Light,
