A FATHER'S PRAYER

she’s a woman now
no denying the fact
the way she fills out
those jeans and halter
the way her wisdom
shines through each day
she’s a real woman
grown up body and soul
a woman much too soon

soulful amber eyes and
long fragrant dark hair
legs that reach for heaven
a walk that draws attention
from every man she passes
a woman of intelligence
who seems to understand
what she wants from life
what she demands from love

in her eyes i still see you
in her laughter i hear yours
i’ve done my best, i hope
but you could have done
so much better than i did
now i must step into shadows
watch the light of my little girl
this beautiful sensitive woman
and i pray everyday to god,
if she’s as romantic as me,
help her to hold out for a hero
