Hello, spec,
yes, here I am, next to you,
and I see you are slightly larger than me...
Well, what shall we do together, spec?
Shall we romp through worlds
of which we were once everything?
Funny how such worlds grew
and filled with many living things...
and do they all become specs over time?
Is it a temporary state of being?
Is it an errant state of mind?
You know, I’ll bet being a spec has its advantages...
one does not have to run and hide, for one thing,
and one can observe without getting in the way,
perhaps specs were made to think and not feel,
for a spec is usually not seen, and overlooked...
Yet, it is depressing, spec,
being reduced to a spec
when one wasn’t always a spec;
there must be an up side later, right?
Well, this ode is to you, spec,
you seem to weather it well...
Do you have any ideas, spec?
Ah, there’s the difference...
Well, see ya later, spec,
I have some ideas to pursue;
but I’ll always feel a camaraderie with you now, spec,
for I was one, with you, for a time
doing what specs do best...

Very intersting. I love the idea of writing a dedication to something we see a million times a day and never give a thought to. Wonderfully written.
Write on.

Of Lepton and Spec
If this variety of spec is too small to be a speck, then perhaps it is a lepton. I would like to spank this spec. I wished it a belated happy birthday because I wasn't here on its birthday, so I wrote the spec a poem, and it ignored me. Imagine that. Being ignored by a spec. Perhaps I am the lepton. Well, I'm glad you wrote an ode to the spec. I guess odes are better than belated birthday wishes....
Wonderful analogy write, hope you find the upside.

Ignored you...? How could I... how did... when... oh, the drama...! lol although I had a feeling I might see you in spec-world... but hey, at least we have our Lepton Soup... let's break-out our spec-spoons and gorge ourselves... maybe we'll bloat into happy Specks...
and where else could you have said classic lines like, "I would like to spank this spec" and "I wrote the spec a poem, and it ignored me?" !
lovely lines...
and thank you, yes, every Aug. 31 this spec become a larger spec (until that day it goes 'pop')... and the only upside to being a spec is sharing the experience, of course...

Well, you're right again, W spec. Thanks to you I finally had the opportunity to write "I would like to spank this spec". I can honestly say that no other human on the planet could make me say that. So, yes, let's sip Lepton soup from our spec-spoons and gorge to possible Speckdom. I knew I was missing something spectacular while I was away. You have quite an impact on the creative muse, W spec. This Lepton salutes you. (Now that I know the exact date that your spec becomes a larger spec, I'm going to circle it on the calendar and surround it with happy spec faces. Glad you found the "upside", and thanks for sharing.

I didn't "exspec" this. Lol! I very much like the conversational and wryly reflective tone of this piece.
Good one,
Bill

ah, this was born of a 'feeling' and resultant perception, which were, as has been the case too often lately, in err... which reduces me, once again, to no more than a spec...!
