"We don't need-no-more Troubles"

A  li-tt-le one

asks her mother;

ma..ma…
why is there war?

A w-ee small lad
whispers to his father;

pa..pa…..
why is there war?

A congo girl weeps alone;
have you seen my ma..ma?

WAR
WAR

A yankee doodle boy clings to his mommy;
have you heard -today- from dad..dy....?

WAR

A muslum child kneels to pray;
“Allah, please, no more….

WAR
WAR

All across the world

quiet tears~soar~ unto the heavens.

Quietly I grieve to answer:
Love and freedom = WAR.

In my heart it aches and mourns;
What am I ~teaching~ my children

    its so sad...

    that children we must give them these answers we dread about our middle east crisis. For that I believe the war we are in is the start of WW3 in the Bi-techno age we are. Making clone humans, nuclear war over a temple of religion when all faiths claim they desecend as the choosen people, mass confusion and more. What are we bringing ourselves too? coruption of our governments we cant trust and its every man for himself. This saddens me. Look at my poem under "show all" of my poems of my page , I wrote a poem called "A Contry's fall" for I meant every word of it, the disgrace the politicians give me and my battle buddies when I go to drill once a month only for there big check bonuses. they are no men at all to grieve and reap wars only men are ones of peace who weap for the end of wars I say.

    This is so beautiful! Children can always ask questions we don't know the answer to, and this one is one of the toughest. This is a very powerful, thought-provoking poem, a pleasure to read.

    "Weekend Hugs"

    Wow what an amazing and heartfelt poem, it really pulled at my heartstrings this morning. I know what you mean when a child ask you a question like this it is so hard to explain so that they can understand. Good luck in the contest my dear friend.

    I am sending a big hug your way, have a blessed and great weekend, Hugs Theresa

    war..evil incarnate...a moving poem..and a moving commentary of humanity's folly ...a wonderful poem....but a terrible subject.....if only we could change it..but i have been an anti war protester since the early sixties.....and what have we achieved...nothing...and we never will i fear until those with political and economic power act...but it is not in there interest..war=profit.....very sad for the future

    Captivating

    This poem was innovative, captivating, emotional and three dimensional in character. Your words took stage and treated the reader to a glimpse of your talent as your poem pealed away the fluff and exposed a core of hurt in all wars. It flows like the currents of life with a realistic crispness. Thanks.

    it is so sad to say that Man = War and it appears that we are willing on all sides to go to WAR to press our ideas and ensure our energy needs and basically to perpetuate the sad state of being that man and his world have evolved to.

    I am sorry to see the world as it is, we could all live together in peace and allow for all beliefs yet this is just not the way that mankind seems to work.

    There always has to be someone on the top of the heap so to speak.

    And that makes me very sad.

    A very thoughtful write. I like how you slow your poem down by using the elipsis in "ma...ma" and "pa..pa.."
    Using the uppercase for the word WAR also enhances your theme. You raise a question everyone asks. I believe WAR begins in the hearts of men. Christ's blessings to you.

    Great take on the prompt. Well written. I love the phrase, "All across the world quiet tears........." and "..quietly I grieve to answer.....". Creative means of drawing emotion through the eyes of children. Nice poem!

    You leave everything to the image of a child wondering and the innocence of a loaded question says it all. No need for clever words or long explanations, there isn't one is there, when faced with such an appeal....
    As usual you get right to the heart of the matter.

    This is crmbling to my soul! You did well on the prompt and I am sad with you that there are so many children in the world growing up without their parents due to war. All the best in the contest!

    Take care

    The minute that you try and answer the question "why is there war?", it would seem that you strip the innocence from the child asking it. Children don't start wars, adults do and we are supposed to know better than children.
    I found this to be a write that touched my heart, being a Mum and Grandma I wonder what the world will be like for them to grow up into.
    It would be nice to think they could find a better way to settle their differences, but it will take stronger men to admit that fighting just DOES NOT work!

    All the best in the contest, if it's judged on content alone, then this is a gold for sure.

    very moving

    love and freedom = war. That is a hard truth. I love being an american citizen. I feel untouchable in many ways that other nations may not be able to relate to.

    Superb Plus +

    Aye, indeed we do not need war, for it is the most inhumane way of settling differences. How many homeless are there now in Irag, and Afganistan? Has this war been worthwhile for anyone? Haven't we all lost more than we will ever gain?
    'tis a fine write which you have penned. You expressed your thoughts quite well, and I weep for the ophans which the warriors on all sides have created. To quote an old 60's song: "When will we ever learn; when will we ever learn?" *

    Your poem was so moving it made me cry out loud and reminded me why I keep moving on and living. I only want to live so that I can create a world my child can live in, hapily and peacefuly, when I dicide to have one. You made me glad I try to stop this maddness.

    The symbolism you suggest is right on//..love and freedom= war..so sad of a comment this is, yet I see your point.It will go on till the end of time, unfortunately, and just what are we teaching our children..makes me want to shed a tear for the grievence we are making against all humanity.Your messages are always compelling and thought provoking.You have a knack of bringing us all down to reality at times.We need this..We need you..I loved this, as usual

    I found this to be poigant in its truth. It also brings to mind " In times of peace we must prepare for war, in times of war we must prepare for peace." It is a sticky situation as destruction is written into our genes. If we as a species could only grow up things might be different but I think we have a long way to go 'ere that happens. Good luck in the contest.

    This write..

    asks questions that there have never been solid answers for and that is the shame. There will come the time. But not until the Lord's return. Until then, men will war, because that's what men do. Birds fly because they have wings. Men war because they do not have God.

    Such a poignant message you bring to us from our "little folk" asking parents why? It seems insane and it is...but as long as their is the fight for greed, and power, it seems to breed fighting. After Vietnam, America decries the war in many ways...and here in Canada we continue to take our losses in Afghanistan...some problems are political and the rulership has been there long. To our children who may yet serve, we owe them if we can a legacy of peace....So well written, g...Bravo on the message as well!
