I was not always this thing
you now behold,
image of a man,
cursed, without a soul.
Immortal now, supreme
among the chosen few,
existing to hunger
for the likes of you,
to crave the thing
that your kind possess,
wandering in the dark,
never knowing rest.
Longing for the life
my breed never knows,
just to greet the sunrise,
just to smell a rose,
just to share an afternoon
delight in lover's kiss,
instead of baring fang,
and impaling with a hiss.
Instead of drawing blood,
doomed to darkness roam,
I'd much prefer to settle,
and build a little home,
enjoy the simple pleasures,
the joys of kith and kin,
instead of being tracked,
being hated, by all men.
You only see a monster,
shrouded by this cape.
I know the truth,
but, alas, there is no escape.

Great piece! In earlier films and books, vampires didn't dwell on their human past. Of course now, most movies and books have begun to show that human side. Great job!!!!
Thanks for entering and Good Luck in the Contest! -
a good dark piece of twisted work which flows with ease, ah the vampire, a thought always crosses my mind with immortality and vampires, if you live forever in the dark, there will come a time when the earth itself is dying, what do vampires do then?
