Yellow leaves tiptoe across tattered shoreline.
Liquid lace veils the gray lake from view.
Migrating geese treat the morning stillness to music
Bidding the first shy tendrils of pink light to dance
In ethereal joy to their wild remembered song.
Time suspended whispers meanings –
Quite forgetting to move on
A deer furtively sidles down to quench it’s thirst
Punctuating the sand with quotation marks
It raises fathomless brown eyes as a fish jumps.
Tiredly the old man moves his shoulders
With his measured habitual tasting of dry lips
He listens as one more day begins to unravel
And as he pushes his small boat into the wet
He smiles, his hand resting on the soft ears
Of his dog.
