They do believe, in this modern day
that recieving a gift such as this
is considered to be a cliche.
A Friday night brimming with unspoken love,
and magic, and the relief of seeing eachother
after being denied for so long.
Presented to me in a tall, sleek vase
filled with clear scarlet pebbles,
out of which protruded the long, perfect stem.
The presentation would not have mattered -
it could have been dug from the earth, and it would still have been
a flawless ruby.
Over the weeks, just like our love
it grew, and grew, drank from the water
I gave, and the crimson blossomed out,
unfurling into beautiful light,
like a baby growing up -
a drop of blood hitting water.
Months went by, and although
that symbol of love died, our own real love
hardened and stood strong, like that rose does now.
The petals are hardened and purple, leaves stagnant
the once serrated thorns now shriveled.
At once the very image of death, and yet vibrantly alive.
Though stiff and decayed, it is kept standing by passion and memories,
memories of your twinkling eyes as you gave it to me in that darkened room
back then, the flower as red as the wine we drank.
So it will always stand on the table in the corner,
as a symbol of love living past death
and when the last petal falls I shall keep it with the others,
and when I die, it shall stand there long after i've moved on
so that just when you think i'm gone for good, you will
see it
and
remember.

This was an absolute pleasure to read! Your colourful imagery made for an outstanding poem! As much as your poem is beautiful I also find it somewhat sad and tragic. Just loved it, well done!

Beautiful imagery. I liked the way you drew comparisons throughout the whole poem and knitted everything together so well at the end. Sweet, touching, and well worth reading.

Beautiful.
I am Captured by the Imagery you Present here, it is Epic and Awesome. :]] I ive you major props for length and being able to keep the Muse, and the Imagery Flowing. Almost captured a Dark Macabre Feel, with the Drawn-out Passionate Ending. Again, Your Imagery is Intense, Which I Like. When I can Stand in the Poem and Look out into the World, It Gets Very Deep and Drawn.
I Like your Work, Plan to Read More.

It started out cliche and you used the word in the write, which I found ironic. But quickly you turned the write around and gave me something new and refreshing to read, a different take on something I've seen many times before, which is great, keep it up.
