Winter's chills have settled in
the leaves are down below
fall buds each are wrapped in scarves
until the warm winds blow
the days are short and dark is nigh
the clouds are rough and low
the temperature has escaped out
of freezing's bungalow
the squirrels are nesting and most birds
are racing fast due south
the people's somber mood forecast
in frost from every mouth
the turkey is this season's fowl
but more I see the crows
who perch atop the barren trees
in lookout for the snows
(a childhood tingle touches me
to think soon now there could be
outside my window - hopefully
a blanket over all I see)
for I, like crows, count all the days
until... it seems so long ago...
the magic of the winter's art
returns and paints with snow
every tree and every grass
and road and house and fence
while from every chimney flows
oak, ash and pine incense
****
Springtime's frolics vanish woe
Summer's warmth I dearly know
Autumn's winds are full of of zest
yet Winter's snows I love the best

Lovely write, thought you might live in cold country, until I read your profile...

I love snow too. The imagery is surreal. I love the part where the leaves are wrapped in scarves. Great write. God bless.

This is very beautifully written. I do like the snow. I went up to Virginia to see snow one year. It is beautiful to see it up in the mountains. I enjoyed the read!!! Thank you for entering my contest.
