I hope it was worth it.

Was it heartlessness that made you do what you did?
Or was it drunkenness that started our downhill skid?
Do you even have a reason, an explanation?
A reason you wasted my dedication?
You should have left, you should have come home,
You should have ignored the pull of the unknown,
Was it worth it? Do I want to know?
How could you be so cold? Sink so low?
Are you going to explain this to me?
Or let my mind wander over what it could be
What you were thinking, what you were drinking
That would drive you to this, throwing away marital bliss
For the sake of a girl, the sake of a kiss?

Author notes

I really hoped it would turn out better than this. Sorry.

A tough poem emotionally because it is obviously one that is very personal for you. It is always a blow when someone hurts a person in this way. I wish you well.

I think this turned out perfectly for the prompt. I always admire your flow when I read your poems. I like how you conveyed the disbelief that the husband would be so damn stupid for just one night/one kiss. The essence of men, lol. Great job.
