Tatum

  Tatum
In the shade of an oak on a warm summer’s day
Down the street come the sounds of child’s play.
“El Lobo! El Lobo!” he hears them say,
And he lumbers down the street
To where the children play

A friend to all
He meets on his way.
He greets everyone
As if to say,

“I’m Tatum, your friend!
How are you today?”

His warmth melts the hearts
Of those he meets
Especially his Master
Who waits up the street

He captured the heart
of this special one
Whose care for Tatum
Is Like that of a son.

A Friend to all
A stranger to none
Gentle Giant, El Lobo,
The wolf dog to some.

In the shade of an oak on a warm summer’s day
Down the street come the sounds of child’s play.
“Tatum! Come Tatum!” he hears his name,
And he lumbers down the street
To where his Master waits

Author notes

Tatum is my husband's Shephard/ Husky mix and Tatum is epileptic and takes medication to control the seizures. Tatum thinks everyone is his friend and it is his duty to be the neighborhood greater. This poem is about Tatum

OH wow! I really, really love this, reminds me of my dear old collie cross Kai who was put to rest last August, he thought when people spoke in the street that they were speaking to him and would shuffle on his tummy to them and roll over. This is one of my favourites in the contest. So very charming and a pleasure to read. Loved it. Good luck in the contest.

Very well done! At first, i thought the poem was talking about a slave or something (i.e "master" "tatum come tatum" lol, but then i looked at the author's notes and it was like "Uhh Derrr" of course it's about a dog. lol great write i really enjoyed it. definitely gonna get a vote from me.

A lot of dogs round where I live have the same atitude. They are huge fun, as is your poem.

thank you...the children down the street were hispanic and "el lobo" mean "wolf" in spanish. Tatum has been mistaken for looking like a wolf that is what these children would call out to him. thanks for taking the time to read.

It is my honest opinion that dogs and children belong together, We always had one as kids
When things were going wrong Old Mick used to sit listening to all our woes Once finished with a wag of his tail and a sloppy lick on the face all was well
i love this one who wouldn't
A wonderful read Good luck in the contest

    aawww...

wow..i love him already! poor lil tatum!! i had a puppy named Snoop dogg, and when he was only a month old he bit into a power cord and became 'inflicted' with that epileptic condition as well..unfornately he was getting meds for it.. but still passed away at about six months of age.. ANYWAYS, this was a great story about Tatum..i wish you had a pic. of him he sounds like he's a beautiful dog from the way you described him..

aren't you sweet! What kind words you gift me with today. Thank you and I am sorry for the loss of your puppy. Tatum is 9yrs old and it is because my husband had treated him like a kid and given him the best care that he has lived so long. But we are rounding that end of life corner and i wanted to write this for my husband.
