Under the grey ceiling of another summer storm,
with the thrum of thunder nearing,
we looked a silent vow to keep each other,
wept into each other's arms
our consuming love
for all time.
I hurt so much to give myself completely,
but your warm wet skin, the rain, the tears,
the heat of two people -
such a long time ago,
yet the scent of that memory
remains, returns to me
in the charged air
of each new summer storm.
Welded to this is sadness -
the glum, sullen eyes of a sodden dog,
underneath the trees, staring out,
as the sky turns to water
and lightning flickers behind the clouds.
I came to life and died at once
that day in your embrace.

"the glum sullen eyes of a sodden dog" - that's what stands out for me even more than the lovers themselves, that external detail. But the whole write is very vivid, the memory of passion.
Enjoyed your write.

I keep forgetting these today.

Last two stanzas are absolutely gorgeous. Loved the imagery, the sad picture of a sodden dog, but then those last two lines which washes sadness away. Lovely

This is lovely. So evocative. I started to take this piece apart to identify my favorite part, but hah! It's all good
So good.

I know Nicole loves your writing, as do the rest of us who have any sense at all. This is a wonderfully descriptive piece dealing with the losses and gains associated with being courageous enough to love. Good luck in the contest, Scribe.

I love the imagery of the dog, such a feeling of lonliness in that scene, I could see
the distant lightning...
Very compelling scott.

Oh my god... This is so sad!!
