Pick-Me-Up

Two lovers enter
the small coffee shop
with the pretense to have coffee
to start their morning
which, ruffled collars
and stray hairs
indicate, has already started
Hours ago.
Their fingers are loosely laced
as she leads
him through the door.
Secretive smiles
hide what they've done
but blushing cheeks
bright with exertion
and vigor
Tell all.
A door off to their right
away from people
away from the crowd
away from eyes
indicates the shop's Restroom.
With a sly smirk
feet change direction.
A new destination.
Quickly she pulls him in
as he glances from one side to the other
making sure
no spying, prying eyes
follow.
The door shuts with a click
and another click indicates the lock
has been pressed.
Hit the shiny silver button
on the hand-dryer.
No one must know.
No one must hear.
As the roar of the hand-dryer floods the small room
so does passion
come in roaring
pressing against the ear drums
stifling
drowning out all else
Quickly
Press the button again
before it stops
and passion is no longer hidden
A knock indicates they've taken too long.
Others must have a chance.
Hurriedly
clothes are re-sheveled
Hair is smoothed back into place
Collars are tucked in
hiding faint traces of lipstick
beneath a rumpled jacket.
Quietly they open the door
as the roar of the hand-dryer
dies down
to a soft hum
then ceases.
Smiles pointing downward to the floor
hide looks of satisfaction
on flushed faces.
Glances shot from the few tables lining the wall
follow the couple,
with fingers loosely laced again
but now trembling,
out the door.
Prior intent forgotten,
coffee is no longer needed
for a pick-me-up.

Author notes

Sitting in Starbucks writing. A couple walked in, smiling. That is the inspiration of this one.
