Why am I not happy? I should be...

You make me smile,
I'm on fire when I see you,
I love your arms around me,
but why am I not happy?

You protect me,
soothe me when sad,
your someone I can lean on,
but I'm still not happy.

Maybe it's the fact I'm scared,
I don't want to get hurt,
I'm scared I'll lose you,
I want to be happy but can't.

I don't want to drag you with me,
I don't want you to fall when I fall,
I don't want you to get hurt,
but I know I'll never be happy...

    I can understand where you are coming from with this poem. Many of us that have darker emotions suffer from this. And if you've been hurt before it is very easy to fear being hurt again. I, too, have been in this position. The key is to try and live in the moment the arms are around you, ignoring tomorrow.

    Poetically this is really good.

    As long as you tell yourself you can't be happy, you won't be. Don't even think of yourself, think of making the one you love happy. Then you may find yourself looking for better too. You deserve to happy.

    i agree with those who have commented already. Sometimes too it is easier to go back to what you have known...Happiness is not familiar but that does not mean you should not be open to it and allow someone wonderful ( no matter who they are) into your life. And it also does not matter with age either... to be scared is so normal... these thoughts you have are so normal. Fear can get the best of all of us. Just know that you deserve happiness.

    My dear daughter's You must learn to let be what will be, he is there with you because he wants to be, he wants to share all with you. He wants to share your sadness, also your smiles. He needs to feel your arms around him for all of these things are what makes him happy's

    Great poem but honey its not so

    If everyday you say you will never be happy then you never give the mind the openness it so needs to let joy in . Sure you can be happy and sure their is that someone out there that will sweep you ff your feet and life together will be heaven indeed . Instead of saying you dont want to drg them with you then take their hand and let them walk you into a place where joy resides and be free
