A girl sold her soul to the devil
At the tender age of 10
For one trip on an aeroplane
A pushbike and more attention
Her road downhill was mapped
The devil laughed and toyed with her
Teaching her to lie and steal
Saying noone would ever catch her
By age 14 she was drinking hard
Drugs and crime were just for fun
Slaps on the wrist were laughable
The devil was proud of the job he'd done
Her mother was no longer needed
Now at 15 she 'knew it all'
She'd made some 'friends' on the street
Off she went without a call
One day at 18 she calls her mother
Not a proud moment in her time
The call came from a prison phone
The devil laughs..'told you she was mine'
Tears stream down the mothers face
Her little girl is bearly there
The only thing that she can do now
Is say she loves her and that she is there
Now aged 26 she still calls her mother
Twelve years she has stood by her side
Another call for bail release comes
Another part of her mother dies
High on drugs she groans her plea
But speaks with no remorse
'This is just the way I am mum!'
Her voice broken up and hoarse
Her mother reinforces her love for her
But this time she must stand aside
Bail must be revoked this time
Or her little girl will die
The hardest thing a mother could do
Is to send her child back to jail
The choice is not an easy one
Yet does not mean that she has failed
Hope and faith hold her strong
Prayers for her daughter guide her through
Now is the time for letting go
Letting Jesus do what He has to do

Author notes
We all think we have let go of 'something', but have we really? How many of us dont realise we are standing in the way of God working in others? How many of us are guilty
of this and wonder why we see things around us deteriorate...How can we serve God and yet help the devil at the same time....we cant.

Beautifully written, the format of a ballad worked wonders with the words. I like the way you've personified the devil, it just makes it so more real, giving him words and thoughts helps the idea of the daughters inner demons. I gotta say when the daughter does speak, you can feel that girls pain over the guilt she feels for not being able to give her mother what she deserves.
The motherly aspect is very human and realistic which just makes it sad to see the daughter to never be able to understand how much she hurts the mother that saves her from the clutches of a fate much worse every time. I like the metaphor 'another part of her mother dies,' definitely brings tears.
It really is very poignant and has a nice philosophical undertone. Persoanlly I think it's awesomely written
(Just one error on line 8)

Damn....damn damn
Reading this just hurt, I felt like I wanted to cry
Perfect story just...beautiful
The mother standing beside her daughter, even when she's fucked up
The perfect tale of a circle of love and pain
The mother's broken heart, and the daughter's fuck ups
I love it
