two loves, two expressions

i gave away my paintings today

in a years time i’ll be married
and i am certain my father will
look upon my scattered artwork
with admiration, fond memories
and love-- they will comfort him
when he misses me; when he makes
his own coffee and vacuums his own floors;
when no one laughs at the same joke
he told yesterday and nobody puts his keys
on the hook so he can find them each morning;

my fiancé wouldn’t even
notice them hanging around our house

his eyes never leave me.

    love it, love the ending. there is a two-part unfolding of relationships and what makes them work: freshness and familiarity.

    a great piece

    Two sides here, one, it's a love story which speaks highly of the fiancé. I looked for sadness in her leaving, but I don't really know...she mentions her dad, more of his pride than how he'll deal with the situation. There even sounds like a twinge of guilt there. As would be natural I guess. But whatever, it's a lovely poem.
