I smiled today
A Smile and a tear
A flaccid tear of laughter
Like dead blood
Slowly trickling
Down my lively cheeks,
A spent memory
Enjoy it while you can
It lingers
Only for a second
Then drops and splats
Without sound
Without recall
Dead
Leaving behind
Hidden faces,
Hidden voices.
On its journey of pain
It ends with an ironic
Bitter taste of ‘laughter’
Scooping from wells
Of self pity,
Self hate and
Self worth
Mingled and transforming
Into
Tears of make believe
Author notes
Sylvia Plath - I'm a huge fan of Tori Amos and Joanna Newsom but felt that Plath suited my style more. Great Comp.
