In the moments of absolute silence,
Of heartbreak,
Of undiluted pain,
My fingers curl,
Pulling and twisting dark black hair,
And the heart he wears around his neck.
Cold metal against fevered skin.
Arms wrapped around his chest,
Squeezing until my joints ache.
I let my fingers flex,
The process of unfurling my fingers
And drawing them back in on themselves
Soothes me.
Like shallow, insignificant words can't.
My heart flutters,
A sigh escaping me.
Drops of salt water fall heavily,
Collecting on his fur.
With wet eyes and slow words,
I whisper his name in his ear.
He whines, letting me know he's there.
I run the soft velvet between callosed fingers;
Bruised and bandaged fingers,
And let the world slip away.
Author notes
About my dog Arizona. When I'm upset I hug him.
The metal heart the title refers to is the ID tag he wears on his collar.
To many commas, to many weird words???

The imagery was great hun, this was really good. I'm glad you can be okay with him at your side to make you feel better, even if a little bit. You did well writing this. Keep them up, doing well.
